This fine Friday afternoon, I had some time on my hands (thanks to no Interior homework), and I was browsing through Pottery Barn's new fall and winter collections. After finding some beautiful pieces and rooms, I found this picture that looks like it could be sitting on a vineyard in California somewhere. I first noticed the wine bottles that had been turned into a unique chandelier. The transparent and glassy texture of the bottles is repeated in the windows in the background. Overall, this was, I believe, the main focus of the room. My eyes were then drawn into the wine glasses and bottles repeated on the top of the table. Next, I noticed the strong lines in the window panes reflected in the hard lines of the table. This made the table proportioned to the windows. The heaviness of the dining set, lighting, and floor to ceiling windows set the scale of the room. Lastly, I noticed the symmetrical balance of the chandeliers, windows, and even table. Then, an asymmetrical balance in the jump from the bottle lighting to the delicate items on the table. Since there are so many tiny details on the table, they balance the two large chandeliers. All in all, I not only love collections by Pottery Barn, but I love the arrangements they are able to create using the principles and elements of design as a guideline.
Hey Alyssa,
ReplyDeleteI too love this picture.
You are right, it does capture a perfect attention to detail seen from the bottle light fixtures. Your eyes are drawn to them. The clean lines of the windows and soft edges of the items placed in the room add an appealing variety to the space. You have very good taste. Good Job.
I also really like your blog! It all speaks of you and your personality. Well done.
Super cute layout, and I love this picture. And I love everything about Pottery Barn. You are so right about the lines in the space, they are so string and are complimented completely by the design and furniture!

ReplyDeleteAlyssa,
ReplyDeleteThis picture is beautiful. I think the windows and chandeliers create balance throughout the room. It uses repetition well. The curves in the lines of the chairs add variety and a softness to the sharp hard walls.
